PHYS 205 Lab Manual

Experiment 4  Magnetic Field of a Solenoid

Theory

Consider a solenoid of length $l$ and number of turns $N$. If a current $I$ flows through the solenoid, a uniform magnetic field is generated inside it, whose magnitude is given by the equation \begin{equation} B = \mu_0\, \frac{N}{l}\, I \label{lab4:eq:B_solenoid} \end{equation} Assume that Equation \ref{lab4:eq:B_solenoid} is still a theory. Perform an experiment as suggested in the procedure to investigate the relation between current and magnetic field inside a finite solenoid.
